This garden is a work-in-progress in Te Awanga, near Havelock North. The new build has meant a lot of earthworks, and there is still a lot to do to the site with further planting to be established once the weather cools. But I did manage to get these eight trees planted in their middle eastern paradise garden inspired layout of concrete drain sections (to bring it back to Kiwi reality). When this picture was taken the courtyard was still in the process of having gravel surfacing installed. The middle ring will contain a pond and will help to create a cool grove of shade to escape the hot summer days … when the trees are grown. They are ornamental pears, which will blossom in spring and turn autumn colours, and most importantly are hardy to wind!
